IGNITE Broward, presented by Broward County Cultural Division in partnership with MAD Arts, features immersive large-scale projection mapping and interactive light sculptures and installations in Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach, Florida. Annually, IGNITE Broward offers five days and nights of free immersive art experiences.
Some examples of the arts programing at DANIA BEACH: MAD ARTS:
Core: A 360° video and music installation created at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, in 2020, in collaboration with Olivier Mellano. The contemplative piece is a synesthetic ballet of light and sound that gives body to the void.
Sound the Deep Waters: A projection-based art installation that invites visitors to submit secret messages that are translated into Victorian flower language before their eyes. Participants can scan a QR code onsite to submit anything from love letters and prose to inside jokes. Visitors will watch the screens before them as their private words become bold, brilliant, larger-than-life floral compositions associated with their messages’ meanings.
Ophelia: An emotive light installation recreating Shakespeare’s famous character as a hologram, elegantly poised during her last breaths in a tranquil water basin. The piece references Millais’ famous painting of drowning Ophelia, recreating the scene in a convergence of classic literature, pre-Raphaelite art, and modern technology.
4TH DIMENSION: An installation that plays with the concept of dimensions perceived by the human senses. From a two-dimensional beginning that creates a flat and abstract vision of reality, the piece moves towards a world that experiences the third dimension, thanks to the introduction of spatial visual depth, up to a hypothetical and abstract fourth dimension. This stroboscopic and psychedelic dynamism creates in the viewer a sense of disorientation and detachment from reality, inspiring a new dialogue between the "perceived" and the "perceivable".
Luminescent Sylva: An immersive experience invites you to explore the hidden wonders of the forest, forging a deep connection with nature through the magic of interactive technology. With a mesmerizing world of nature's embrace, an interactive LED wall transports you deep into the heart of the forest. As you stand before the vibrant display, you'll find yourself surrounded by towering trees, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze. With a simple touch, you can awaken the forest's hidden secrets – fireflies dance in response to your gestures, flowers welcome you forward, and woodland creatures emerge from the shadows, their eyes gleaming with curiosity.
